A San Diego police detective testified Wednesday that when retired criminalist Kevin Brown was told his sperm had been linked by DNA tests to a 30-year-old murder case, he offered two possible explanations: Either the evidence was planted, or he’d had sex with the victim. What he didn’t say, according to the testimony by detective Lori Adams, is that he and other criminalists routinely kept their own semen in the lab, a possible source of contamination that could explain the DNA results.
